DEWALT® Launches Two New 20 Volt MAX* Lithium Ion 1/2-Inch High Torque Impact Wrenches for Heavy-Duty Fastening Applications

TOWSON, Md. (Feb. 7, 2012) – Today, DEWALT announces the addition of two new 1/2-inch High Torque Impact Wrenches to its existing 20 Volt MAX* Lithium Ion system. The DCF889L2 impact wrench with detent pin anvil and the DCF889HL2 impact wrench with hog ring anvil are designed for mechanical contractors, plumbers, automotive users, maintenance and repair professionals and remodelers. The DCF889L2 and DCF889HL2 are designed for professionals who demand a tool for difficult fastening applications, such as driving and removing fasteners, nuts and bolts in wood, metal and concrete.

“The DCF889L2 and DCF889HL2 are the best DEWALT impact wrenches yet,” said Phil Lalle, product manager, DEWALT. “Professionals will find that these wrenches deliver the power, durability and control they need to tackle the toughest tasks on the jobsite.”

The new impact wrenches deliver 300 ft./lbs. of torque to perform a wide range of heavy-duty fastening applications. In addition, the DCF889L2 and DCF889HL feature a variable speed trigger with an electric brake for added control. The units provide 1,650 revolutions per minute (RPM) and 2,600 impacts per minute (IPM) for powerful application speeds. Both models also feature an LED light, providing greater visibility when working in dark, tight spaces.
Another feature contractors will benefit from when using these tools is the heavy-duty impact mechanism that is powerful enough to complete difficult applications without creating reactionary torque or kick back.

In addition, the tools run off of DEWALT’s new 20 Volt MAX* batteries with Fuel Gauge LED indicator lights that allow professionals to see how much charge is left in the battery.

The DCF889HL2 features a hog ring anvil that allows for easy socket change, while the detent pin on the DCF889L2 provides a secure socket grip. For extended durability, the DCF889L2 and DCF889HL2 are equipped with a magnesium gear case and all-metal transmission.

The DCF889L2 and the DCF889HL2 will be available in June 2012 through industrial distributors. The kits (DCF889L2 and DCF889HL2) each include two 20 Volt MAX* Lithium Ion 3.0 Ah Fuel Gauge battery packs, one fast charger and a kit bag. They are expected to retail for approximately $329.00.

The new impact wrenches are also available as bare units (DCF889B and DCF889HB), which are sold without batteries or chargers; they are expected to retail for approximately $169.00 through industrial distributors. The tools will come standard with a three-year limited warranty, one-year free service contract and 90-day money-back guarantee. For more information visit: www.dewalt.com.

It is being changed because overall users in the field prefer to have variable speed, which you do not gt with the rocker.

ah that is true. Maybe rocker switch with a 3 speed. I'm sure it will be ok. I use mine for such high torque applications I've never worried about the speed
