I just though I would post this here for anyone else who may be experiencing this same problem.
You click the yellow "D" icon, which is only supposed to be yellow if there are new topics since your last visit, and it takes you to the next page and tells you no new topics were found???
This appears to be a slight bug with the forum software but here are the common reasons this happens:
1) Someone has only edited a post (would not be seen as new unread post, but still shows the "new" label if you go the board index )
2) You have had X number of unread messages when you last left the forum. They would still be unread, but just not show up in the unread list anymore.
(Temporary Fix) For now, at the bottom-right of the forum, you can just click the "MARK ALL MESSAGES AS READ" link and that should reset it for you.
