Hi,
I have two new DC9180 Lithiunm Ion batteries that have stopped working.  I am using two new DC920 drill/drivers  on a new home project.  Both batteries stopped working totally.  I tried the batteries on an old DW987 drill and they won't work with it either.  I read a posting that said that if the DC9180 gets hot it will shut down and you have to recharge/reset the battery in a lithium ion battery charger to get the battery to work again.  I have tried charging both in a DC9310 charger that I purchased with the DC9180s.  The charger blinks just like it's charging and then the light burns solid to indicate that the battery is charged.  But when I put the batteries back into any drill, they do not work - they do nothing!  What am I doing wrong?  What do I have to do to get the DC9180s to work again?  The charger was sold as the proper charger to use with these batteries - but is there a different battery charger that has to be used to reset these DC9180s?  I'm back to using old DC9096 batteries in my new drills, but they don't hold a charge for too long.  But at least they work for a short while.  I purchased the new DC9180s because I believed them to be an upgrade.  I'm looking for some solutions to getting my new DC9180s to work again.  The local DeWalt repair shop had no experience with the DC9180 battery packs and could offer no help.

If they are new then you should have them checked out at your local service center. The batteries are covered for 2 years. If they really went bad then they will give you two new ones. You may want to have your drills checked as well. If you have a bad switch that can cause battery failure.
