While the 12v Max is a fantastic line up, it's not for everyone. It is 12v, and will outperform anything it's class currently on the market roughly 80% of any application I've tested thus far. The tools don't always win, but 80% is pretty darn good.

As far as 18v compact lithium ion goes, it's not for everyone. It depends greatly on what you plan on using it for on a day to day basis. If power and run-time are your two main factors, then I would go with XRP. If you readily have a charger available, and you don't do big projects, and weight and balance are more important, then I would choose the compact lithium.

Thank you JC.   Sorry for the rather harsh post by myself earlier.  Frustration sets in after multiple 2 hour trips to the hardware store for nothing.  I wanted to use the 12 volt for sheathing , framing and decking.  Wrong choice.

I am going to pursue the lithium XRP.  Switching batteries is a pain.

Just picked up the drill/driver & impact with local promo, free batt or flashlight. great ergo's & power. I find using the 12v  drills more than my 18v other than continuously driving 3" deck screws.

Anyone know when other tools will be available? maybe a saw and a compact radio or even a multi tool would be   Cool

Not night and day difference, performance wise between Makita and DeWalt. but Build, Ergo's and Feel wise DeWalt wins out IMO. The only thing that Makita has going in the delay/light feature.

I'll be interested in how the dewalt drill and screwdriver do against the bosch ps21 and ps31. The bosch set I have and love, but, hey, tis the season.  Grin

That's a patent they have, but with all patent you could either pay to use it, infringe on it or patent around it.
