So I have a DCD710 12V MAX Drill Driver which handles the majority of the tasks around the home.  I want to get into the 20V MAX line as well and am trying to decide if I could go by with either the DCD785 or the DCD985, considering I have the DCD710.  I'm thinking get the DCD985 and just have the big bad boy, because when I have a need for more power, I'll really have a need.

Having all three would certainly be nice, but that would seem a little excessive for me.  But I'm open to ideas on why I might want all three as well.  Wonder what others think.

Since you have the dcd710 my suggestion is to go for the dcd985. If you have these two you really do not need the dcd785. This is my two cent of the matter.

I agree, the DCD985 will do everything you need and then some. Then for the smaller job's you can snag the DCD710 and appreciate the weight savings.
